Basilica Sanctuary of the Fallen Lord of Monserrate
About
It is a destination that attracts both pilgrims and tourists, who can also enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the top of the hill. This sanctuary houses the image of the Señor Caído—the “Holy Christ Fallen under the Whips and Nailed to the Cross,” a work by master Pedro de Lugo Albarracín—and a replica of the Virgin of Montserrat, identical to the one in the Monastery of Montserrat in Barcelona, Spain. It is an ideal place for reflection, prayer, and spiritual peace, especially on weekends and during special times of the year such as Holy Week and Christmas.
The Fallen Lord of Monserrate holds many mysteries and is at the center of various beliefs, rituals, and miracles attributed to it by devotees. Visitors will find local handicrafts and a variety of traditional dishes. The Casa San Isidro restaurant is one of the highlights.
