This museum houses an impressive collection of about two thousand three hundred and sixty works related to the history of Independence and the concept of citizenship in Colombia. From pieces from colonial times to contemporary objects, the collection has been acquired since the museum was founded in 1960 by the Colombian Academy of History. Among the treasures on display are paintings, graphic works, photographs, historical documents, books, miniatures, coins, medals, clothing, weapons, furniture and objects of daily life that show the rich cultural and social diversity of the country over the centuries.
