The Monserrate trail is one of Bogotá’s most iconic destinations, featuring 1,605 steps that climb to 2,350 meters above sea level, rewarding visitors with a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. The route attracts hundreds of people every week—whether they come to exercise, enjoy the local cuisine, or take part in the Eucharistic celebrations held at the temple.

Access to the trail is free and open to the public, with no prior registration required, although capacity is regulated to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all visitors. Along the way, people can take breaks, enjoy the natural surroundings of the hill, and capture some of the most impressive views of Bogotá.

Walking the Monserrate trail is a unique experience that blends exercise, spirituality, and gastronomy in a remarkable natural setting. It’s an excellent opportunity to explore one of the capital’s most deeply rooted traditions and connect with its culture, history, and urban landscape.

The pedestrian trail is open from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every day except Tuesdays.

How to get there?

The entrance to the Monserrate Trail is located at Carrera 2 Este #21-48. To get there by private vehicle, drive south along Avenida Circunvalar, then take the exit toward Calle 21 and continue to Carrera 2 Este, where you’ll find several parking options near the trailhead. The parking lot is on the same block.. 

If you’re taking TransMilenio, use a route that takes you to Universidades Station (Line J). From there, it’s about a 15-minute walk toward the hill until you reach the trailhead on Carrera 2 Este.

If you’re using the SITP, look for routes that stop near the intersection of Avenida Circunvalar and Calle 21. From there, it’s a short walk to Carrera 2 Este, where you can begin your ascent on the Monserrate trail.
