Discover an exciting tour through the urban vegetable gardens of Bogotá. On this tour, you will find the charms of vegetable gardens, such as the Monterrey vegetable garden, next to the El Burro wetland, where the magic of urban agriculture reveals the history of this public space's transformation while learning about recycling and the use of waste.

You will also find different spaces, such as the El Tintal library's vegetable garden, where the community guides us through the library's collective memory. Dive into species illustration and recycling workshops as we explore this cultural oasis.

 

The community's work in the city's popular neighborhoods is a sample of an ecological and sustainable paradise in the middle of a concrete jungle, such as the Marcella vegetable garden, which reflects a biodiversity haven in 600 square meters and teaches about the importance of conserving our flora and fauna.

What will you see?

  1. The route starts at the Monterrey vegetable garden (Calle 8bis b # 81 – 20), very close to the El Burro wetland, which tells the story of the recovery of public space through urban agriculture; you will also learn about the use of waste and recycling.
  2. Then you will go to the vegetable garden of the Tintal library (Avenida Ciudad de Cali # 6c – 09), where through a process of community memory, you will have a tour of the library, a workshop on illustration of species and recycling workshop.
  3. Then, in the Marsella vegetable garden (Carrera 69 # 8 - 28), you learn about biodiversity in 600 square meters from the hands of community women while enjoying a tasting of aromatic herbs.
  4. In the penultimate stop at the Mundo Aventura Amusement Park (Carrera 71D # 1 - 14 South) in the Granja Mundo Natural vegetable garden, where, besides planting and gardening workshops, you can learn about the management of farm animals.
  5. At the last stop in the Carvajal Osorio neighborhood (Carrera 68L # 37d south - 38), there is a project that has benefited 400 families and low-income people. You will learn about composting in small spaces and sustainable energy.

How to get there?

  • Private vehicle: To Monterrey, the first community vegetable garden on Calle 8bis b # 81 - 20.
  • Transmilenio: Take the route to the station closest to the El Burro wetland, the Banderas station. From there, you can walk to the vegetable garden.
  • SITP or bus: Identify the route that goes along Ciudad de Cali Avenue by locating the nearest station identified with the codes 740, C123, and H707. You will get off at the nearest bus stop, and from there, you can walk to the vegetable garden.
