Church of Our Lady of the Angels

The Parish of Our Lady of the Angels—La Porciúncula, known simply as La Porciúncula, is one of Bogotá's most emblematic churches. Located in the heart of the city's financial district, at Avenida Chile and Carrera 11, the Catholic temple holds special significance as it is dedicated to La Porciúncula, the birthplace of the Franciscan movement.

Founded in 1919, its history began with the construction of a residence for Franciscan brothers, which also served as a school of theology and philosophy. The Franciscan community acquired the land in 1918 through the sale of a lot in the San Cristóbal district. By 1921, the building was operational, and in October 1923, the first friars arrived to inhabit it.

Architecturally, the church is designed in the late Neo-Gothic style, incorporating elements of 19th-century Classical Neo-Gothic. It features three naves, an impressive ribbed vault, stained-glass windows, and a beautiful rose window. The arches and columns separating the naves contribute to its unique beauty and functionality.
