Our Lady of Health Parish

With a history dating back to November 20, 1602—when Judge Luis Enríquez commissioned mason Juan de Robles to build the church—this temple, which has undergone several renovations, is today one of the main tourist landmarks of Chocontá. In 1687, Father Ignacio Garzón initiated a reconstruction that was later completed in 1721 by Father Fray Antonio Galaris. Another major renovation began in 1755 under Father Fray Antonio Mutiens and was finally finished in 1762 by mason Alejandro Espinosa.

In general, the people of Chocontá are characterized by their deep religiosity. Throughout the year, they hold special religious celebrations, among which the patron saint festival in honor of Our Lady of Health, the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and the novena to the Divine Child stand out. The high altar features the painting of Our Lady of Health.

The temple can be reached via the road leading from Bogotá or Tunja in Boyacá.
