Just like other main world cities, Bogotá is ready to celebrate the diversity during the Pride Month, an annual event of the LGBTIQ+ community. There will be several activities to celebrate during June, and you can check them out at VisitBogota.
Many of the local mayor’s offices have already donned the colorful flag that represents this community as a symbol of support for diversity and the struggle for the guarantee of their rights. This event will also take place this Friday, June 14, in the International Center Building, the headquarters of the Bogotá Tourism Office and the District Secretariat of Economic Development.
The next day, at La Media Torta, “The Night of the Fireflies” will take place. It is an event that aims to change sexist, misogynist, homophobic, and transphobic imaginaries through the art of transformism in a great staging involving drag collectives, vogue dancers, and drag performers from Colombia. The show will run from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. On that same day, the “LGBTIQ+ Opportunities Festival: Employment, Undertakings, Social Services and Art for Equality” will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Theatron —an icon of the capital’s nightlife and one of the most oversized diverse bars in the world.
Also, between June 21 and July 6, it will be the turn of the “Festival for Equality,” organized by the Sexual Diversity Directorate of the District Planning Secretariat, with artistic, sports, and academic activities.
Marches, art and culture
The first of the pride marches —full of art, music, color, and showy parades— will be held in the south of Bogotá on June 23, followed by the large District March on June 30.
It will start at 11:30 a.m. from the Historical Memory Center and culminate at the Bolívar Square. Additionally, another important event is the Pride Fest at Pradera Box on the Autopista Norte # 224 at noon. The event will feature performances by "Esteman," "Suelta como gabete," "RuPaul's Drag Race Superstar," and "El Show de Jimmy," among other artists. Moreover, the National Museum, the Bogota Planetarium, and the Julio Mario Santodomingo Theater will host different cultural events related to the community.
