From the deep sound of the marimba de chonta, the tastiness of the cantaoras and the unmistakable flavor of the viche, the Petronio Álvarez Festival is an annual event in Cali that celebrates the ancestral traditions, music, and gastronomy of the Colombian Pacific, will be coming to Bogotá. The event will take place on Saturday, August 31 at the La Santamaría Cultural Square in the center of Bogotá, from 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. Admission is free.

The event will feature the participation of famous musical groups such as Matachindé, El Folclor de mi Pueblo, Aires de mi Tierra, and La Calle Manigua from the Chocó, Nariño, and Valle del Cauca departments. These groups will showcase their talent in traditional modalities such as marimba, Caucan violin, and chirimía, in popular genres such as bunde, pasillos, and abozaos.

The cultural celebration is anticipated to bring together over 6,000 individuals, including both locals and visitors. They will have the opportunity to purchase handcrafted accessories like painted hats and turbans, as well as local food and typical sweets that are part of the heritage of the Pacific. Visitors can also indulge in viche, an ancestral drink made from herbs. 

The event will pay tribute to symbolic figures such as Libia Oliva Bonilla, Petronio Álvarez Quintero, Basilia Murillo, Lisandro Vallecilla Riascos, and Ana Raquel Riascos Góngora, who have dedicated their lives to preserving these customs.
