Fragmentos: Espacio de Arte y Memoria
Carrera 7a # 6b - 30
Cómo llegarFragmentos: Espacio de Arte y Memoria', is a monumental work created in 2017 by Bogotá artist Doris Salcedo. This counter-monument invites reflection on the Colombian armed conflict, moving away from a traditional and epic vision of history. Its central design is a floor made from melted FARC-EP weapons, created with the participation of women who were victims of sexual violence. It symbolizes the transformation of pain into a space where the ruptures and deep wounds of the conflict are recognized, fostering a necessary dialogue about the extreme experiences lived by millions of Colombians.
More than a static monument, 'Fragmentos' is a living space for artistic creation that encourages collective dialogue. Its open and free structure hosts exhibitions, conferences, and workshops that invite reflection on the multiple memories of the conflict, promoting reconciliation through art. The work highlights emptiness and absence as central elements, recalling the irreparable impact of war and offering a setting to confront these realities from different perspectives.
Managed by the National Museum of Colombia, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Mayor's Office of Bogotá, and the National University, it is an essential place for understanding and historical memory. Its varied programming seeks to create a participatory space where the voices of victims and society intertwine, using art as a tool to build a more conscious and reconciled future.
On November 25, 2020, the 27th Colombian Architecture and Urbanism Biennial awarded the Carlos Arbeláez Camacho Prize in the Heritage Intervention category to Granada Garcés Arquitectos for the counter-monument Fragmentos, Espacio de Arte y Memoria.
