This Christmas, both locals and visitors can enjoy free programming presented by the District Institute of Arts (Idartes). With more than 60 free activities—ranging from concerts and theater performances to film screenings, creative workshops, dance halls, and even astronomical experiences—taking place between December 1 and 29, the city offers a vibrant cultural celebration. It’s a chance to bid farewell to the year through art and diversity, inviting families to experience cultural spaces as places of connection, imagination, and community.

Teather

The program begins on December 4 at the El Parque Theater with the performance of  Alkφra y Laquebaila, which blends dance, acrobatics, video art, and music in a multimedia experience inspired by sacred geometry. The following day, El Castillo de las Artes will host ‘La toma de la luz’ (The Taking of Light): a community event with lanterns, live music, collaborative art, and spaces for dialogue.

Then, from December 5 to 19, the Crea Training Centers will host “NavidadEs CREA 2025: Habitar la alegría, la luz y la comunidad” (Christmas Is CREA 2025: Living Joy, Light, and Community), featuring workshops, fairs, exhibitions, and artistic novenas that bring art directly to neighborhoods across the city. Meanwhile, from December 19 to 23, the Pilona 10 Cultural Center will present a children’s play about solidarity and the power of dreams.

On December 20, the same stage will present “Momo,” a tender story about the value of friendship and time, created especially for young children. On December 21, El Parque Theater will celebrate another great family moment with “La niña tejedora” (The Weaver Girl), a musical that pays tribute to the artisans of Nariño and the symbolic power of weaving as a link between nature and cultural memory.

Music

Music will reach every corner of the city through Idartes’ Mobile Stages, under the slogan “Music Lights Up the City.” The tour begins on December 7 with ElectroVelitas, a sonic and visual experience at Lourdes Square featuring electronic music artists fused with traditional rhythms.

Other mobile concerts include Tríptico: Vallenato, Popular, and Mariachi at Suba Central Park on December 12; a scenic caravan with pop, soul, and swing in the International Center on December 18; and a grand finale filled with theater, performance, and tropical music at Cedritos Park on December 21, featuring Divanidad and Los Ama-Sónicos.

Meanwhile, on December 6, the El Ensueño Theater will present “El árbol de las cuatro historias” (The Tree of Four Stories), a play that reinvents the oral Christmas tradition from Ciudad Bolívar. On the same stage, on December 12, the Bogotá Pre-Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, made up of 90 talented young musicians, will perform.

In Suba, at the Cometas Happiness Center, on December 14, the Tutaina Literary Picnic 2025 will be held, an outdoor literary event to share readings, words, and community. And as an extra gift, science and contemplation also have their place: on December 20, the Bogotá Planetarium will offer the “Planetario Nocturno – Navidad Viva” (Night Planetarium – Live Christmas), an event featuring talks, telescope observations, and fulldome projections that connect sky mythologies with solstice celebrations.

Films

When it comes to cinema during the Christmas season, the Bogotá Cinematheque is offering a workshop for children on December 6: “Navidad de Película” (Christmas Movie) at the Specialized Library of Film and Audiovisual Media (BECMA). It will allow participants to create lanterns inspired by Christmas classics such as Home Alone and The Grinch.

Dance

And since December is synonymous with dancing and “the body knows it,” the festive spirit will fill La Casona de la Danza with the 5th Festival of Little Candles and Drums on December 4. There will be percussion workshops, dance troupes, contemporary dance, and Afro-Colombian rhythms, celebrating one of the most luminous traditions of this season.

The dance floors light up with the Christmas Dance Halls, set up in Suba, Kennedy, Tunjuelito, and Bosa, with local orchestras that will get the audience moving with salsa, merengue, cumbia, and other tropical rhythms.

With this vibrant agenda, Idartes invites locals and visitors alike to experience a different kind of Christmas: a celebration of art, community gathering, and free creativity. Bogotá becomes a stage of light, culture, and solidarity, offering a gift for everyone with free admission.
