Bogotá runs with the heart in the Carrera por los Heroes

There are races running for a while. Others, for a goal. And there's one that runs out of gratitude. .

This weekend, Bogotá again became the stage of one of those exciting days: the 18th edition of the Race for the Heroes He comes to the city as an invitation to run for those who have made service and sacrifice a way of life.

Since 2009, this initiative has been organized by the Matamoros Corporation It brings together thousands of people around a cause that goes beyond sports: supporting the heroes of Colombia, injured members of the military and police forces, as well as the families of those who have died in the performance of their duty.

And Bogotá, as it usually does with the great encounters, receives it with its open arms.

The city will be different. The streets will have another pulse, one marked by solidarity steps, yellow T-shirts and thousands of stories crossing the same route. From the Plaza de Alfiles in the Gran Estación shopping center, 5K, 10K and 15K runners will add to an experience that is also a symbol of inclusion, memory and hope.

It is not a competition, it is to see families run together, athletes with prostheses and handcycle share the same line of departure; those who come by sport and end up connecting with a cause. Each registration contributes to education, rehabilitation and support programmes for hundreds of heroes and their families. That's why this race feels different: here every kilometer makes sense.

And perhaps that is why it is so exciting to live in Bogotá, because few cities know how to turn public space into celebration and thanks for those who have given their day to day, their work and their life for an entire country.

Among avenues that for a few hours are given to the corridors and that Sunday air that invites you out, the capital becomes a great tribute in motion. It's a different way to know the city.

If you're in Bogotá this weekend, you can't miss it, you'll be part of a tradition that has been remembering for almost two decades that running can also be an act of solidarity. Because in Bogotá, some races not only leave medals, they leave a mark.
