Bogotá and its spiritual connection with Cundinamarca
As a main city, Bogotá not only houses iconic temples such as the Primada Cathedral and Monserrate, it is also the starting point for the Cundinamarca churches, connected by routes that reveal their religious and architectural wealth.
In the context of the 2025 Jubilee Year, some temples of Cundinamarca were designated as points of pilgrimage, allowing the faithful to obtain indulgences and live a deep spiritual experience. These include:

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary (Facatativa).
The capital of the province of Sabana of the West.
Located in the heart of the Western Sage, this cathedral is a symbol of the religiosity of the region. Its neoclassical structure has witnessed countless historical events, and after the ravages of the 1967 earthquake, it was restored to remain a meeting point for the faithful. Its beauty and relevance make it an indispensable place within this Jubilee journey.
The Parish Temple Our Lady of Bethlehem (Fusagasugá).
"Fusagasugá - Capital of the province of Sumapaz.
Founded in 1612, the Our Lady of Bethlehem Parish has witnessed more than 400 years of history. Among his prominent parish priests are historian Lucas Fernández de Piedrahita and José Celestino Mutis. The advocation of Our Lady of Bethlehem, represented in a 16th century canvas enthroned in 1776, is central to the Catholic identity of the Fusagasugueños.
- San Miguel Archangel Parish Church (Gachetá).
The capital of the province of Guavio.
Located in the main square of Gachetá, this church is an icon of the municipality. Its architecture, inspired by the Roman style, has two towers of pointed ceilings and a statue of Jesus Christ in the center, creating a solemn and majestic atmosphere. The recent remodeling has further embellished its facade, and the installation of a sound system has improved the experience during liturgical celebrations.
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Girardot).
"Girardot - Capital of the province of Alto Magdalena.
This cathedral is a religious reference in the Alto Magdalena. Dedicated to the patron of the city, it is the first parish established in Girardot. Its imposing central ship, built in the late 20th century, is a monument of great historical value. Its Romanesque architectural design with Gothic influence makes it a unique example of religious construction in the region.
- Santa Barbara Parish Temple (La Mesa).
"La Mesa" - Tequendama Province.
Built between 1900 and 1910, this Republican temple stands out for its historical importance. In the same place where today the church rises, there was the healing house where the wise José Celestino Mutis began the Botanical Expedition in 1785. This fact gives the temple additional value, not only religious, but also scientific and cultural.

The Parish San Antonio de Padua (Pacho).
"Pacho - Capital of the province of Rionegro.
Founded in 1714 after being previously indigenous doctrine, Indian parish and white parish in different locations, the church of San Antonio de Padua has resisted the passage of time and adversities. His first parish priest, Dr. Juan José Forero, began the construction of a small temple, continued by the priest Tomás Econo and Vargas.
In 1807, a fire destroyed the temple and much of the village. With the arrival of Father Lucas Gómez, the construction of the present temple, whose original façade is still preserved, began. In 1993, after a restoration, its interior was renewed to keep alive the tradition of faith in the region.

The Parish Temple of San Miguel Archangel (Villeta).
The capital of the province of Gualivá.
The history of this temple is closely linked to the foundation of Villeta in 1551 by Alonso de Olalla and Hernando de Alcocer, sent by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. At the beginning, the region was inhabited by the Panches and the Chapaimas, tribes known for their rituals and beliefs. With the arrival of colonizers and evangelization, the temple was consecrated to St. Michael Archangel, a protector against adversities. Today, this church remains a symbol of the religious identity of the municipality.
Beyond the Jubilee temples: The religious heritage of Cundinamarca.
In addition to these designated temples, Cundinamarca houses a large number of churches and cathedrals that are part of its cultural and spiritual identity. Places like the Church of San Roque in Nimaima, the Parish of Our Lady of La Palma and the Church of Our Lady of the Candelaria in Medina are just some of the places that keep the religious tradition of the department alive.
From Bogotá, the routes lead to these temples and sanctuaries, offering pilgrims and visitors an experience that combines faith, history and architecture. Each province has its own spiritual treasure, from colonial churches to modern constructions that continue to host thousands of faithful.
