In the heart of Bogotá's historic center, very close to Journalists' Park, lies the Bogotá Cinematheque, also known as the Center for Audiovisual Arts, the institution responsible for promoting cinematic arts in the city.

This architectural complex is a landmark that revitalized downtown Bogotá. It features three cinemas and the multifunctional Sala E. Other spaces within the complex include the Media Library and the Specialized Library for Film and New Media (BEC MA) for consulting and researching bibliographic and audiovisual materials; the Rayito Room, which hosts artistic experiences for early childhood (children between 0 and 5 years old); the Media Library, available for consulting and researching bibliographic and audiovisual materials; the Object Library, a consultation room for young people between 7 and 15 years old; laboratories for training and creative activities; a gallery for exhibiting and circulating temporary and permanent curatorial projects; and vaults dedicated to the preservation of film, digital, and iconographic archival materials, devices, and objects. The documentation and archive room and spaces for sound, audiovisual, image, editing, and digital workshops.

The first film festival was held in 1971 and screened films from diverse schools, such as classic French cinema, the Golden Age, and German Expressionism, among others. In 1976, the Colombian Film Festival began, in partnership with the then-Colcultura (Colombian Institute of Culture).

It is recommended to keep an eye on their program, as they often offer excellent film series, including experimental, community-based, and alternative audiovisual works produced both in the working-class neighborhoods of Bogotá and on the streets of every continent.
