La Media Torta
📍 Calle 18 # 1-05E
La Media Torta is an open-air theater located in the historic center of Bogotá. Since its inauguration in 1938 as a contemporary amphitheater donated by the British Council, it has witnessed Bogotá's growth as a welcoming city for all, both locals and foreigners
Conceived in 1936 by Jorge Eliécer Gaitán (a political leader) as an entertainment space for the first farmers and migrants who arrived in the capital, La Media Torta has been an integral part of the city's cultural life. It has hosted renowned artists of both classical and popular music, from Julio Iglesias to the Mexican rock band Molotov.
Today, its 180-degree panoramic view of the performances and the city continues to amaze both locals and visitors. Since hosting Rock al Parque in 1995, La Media Torta has diversified its programming, welcoming fans of various genres such as ranchera, vallenato, rap, reggae, and metal, as well as artistic expressions of film, theater, and dance.
Thanks to this wide range of cultural offerings, La Media Torta has become an indelible symbol of Bogotá's diversity and its ability to unite its inhabitants through art and culture.
You can get there by TransMilenio and get off at the Las Aguas station. From there, heading towards the eastern hills, it's about a 15-minute walk.
