Virgin of the Immaculate Conception - Guadalupe Hill
Contrary to popular belief, the sculpture on this hill does not correspond to the Virgin of Guadalupe but to the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, patron saint of the Archdiocese of Bogotá. The Indians called Monserrate Hill "grandfather's foot" and the neighboring Guadalupe Hill "grandmother's foot."
When the Spaniards first arrived, almost 400 years ago, they named it Guadalupe Hill in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe of Badajoz. They planted a cross and, just a few months later, began the construction of the sanctuary, a project that took over 100 years. Unfortunately, earthquakes in 1743, 1785, 1826, and 1917 destroyed the chapels erected in honor of the Virgin.
The enormous statue, standing 15 meters tall, can be seen from kilometers away. From this viewpoint, visitors can appreciate a breathtaking view of much of the capital and a clear view of Monserrate Hill and its sanctuary. The peaceful atmosphere invites you to disconnect from the overwhelming noise of the metropolis.

¿Cómo Llegar?
To get to Guadalupe by private vehicle, take Avenida Circunvalar and then the road toward the municipality of Choachí. At kilometer 6.7, you will find a signposted turnoff on the right that will take you to the sanctuary. You can also take a bus from Calle 6 and Carrera 15, next to the Bogotá Metropolitan Police Station, which can be easily reached by TransMilenio..
