From Gastronomy and Culture to the Rock al Parque Stage: Editors Discover a Bogotá that Gives More

Before rocking out in Bogotá, Tom Smith and Justin Lockey, members of the British band Editors, explored La Candelaria to discover the city through its flavors, cafés, and traditions. A journey that showed them that Bogotá is lived far beyond just music.

From Gastronomy and Culture to the Rock al Parque Stage: Editors Discover a Bogotá that Gives More

Before meeting the audience at Rock al Parque, British musicians Tom and Justin took the opportunity to walk, taste, and explore. Amidst cacao, coffee, traditional cuisine, and ancestral knowledge, Bogotá opened its doors to an experience that connects culture with the small pleasures of traveling in a city like Bogotá.

The first stop was the dining table. At the Testigo Restaurant, the musicians got close to traditional and ancestral cuisine, prepared over a wood fire. This experience allowed them to discover flavors and cooking techniques that are part of Colombia’s rich gastronomic heritage because getting to know a city also begins with sitting down to eat, discovering its ingredients, and talking about them.

But the tour didn’t end there; the next stop was at Cacaote Store, where 100% Colombian cacao became an opportunity to get creative. There, they learned how to prepare their own cup of hot chocolate and discovered what a true onces santafereñas are all about: with chocolate, cheese, and almojábana. It's a combination that invites you to be surprised and to realize that in Bogotá, trying something new can also be a way to travel.

Next up was coffee. At Casa Galería Café, Smith and Lockey learned more about the process behind a cup of coffee and prepared their own drink, accompanied by a traditional almojábana cake. It was an opportunity to experience two flavors deeply rooted in the country’s daily life and to discover everything behind those small rituals that accompany a conversation, a break, or an afternoon in the historic center.

The tour concluded at Café Casa Cultural Nuestra Herencia, with a tasting of herbal infusions that brought other Colombian traditions to the table. Amidst ancestral herbs and a canelazo, the musicians explored preparations that connect gastronomy with memory, traditions, and the ways of sharing passed down from generation to generation.

Four stops, many stories, and the same city as a meeting point. That's how La Candelaria showed the members of Editors that Bogotá is also discovered by stepping into its cafes, talking to those who preserve its traditions, and spending time in those places that have something to tell, beyond just their products.

These stops are an invitation for you, too, to explore the historic center with different eyes. Stop by a cafe, try a preparation you’ve never had before, ask about the origin of its ingredients, and let yourself be carried away by the stories of those who make each place a unique experience. Sometimes, the best memories of a trip appear far from the usual itineraries, around a cup or in an unexpected conversation.

And while Bogotá continues to share its culture with visitors from all over the world, music brings us together again. This holiday Monday, October 12, Editors will perform at Rock al Parque to perform from 7:10 p.m. to 8:10 p.m. at the Bio by Vans stage in the Simón Bolívar Metropolitan Park.

Because Bogotá is not only heard but also tasted, walked, and felt. And in every corner, there is a reason to discover something new.
