The Bogotá Museum is a true cultural treasure that will take you on an unparalleled journey through the city's history. With more than 24,000 objects in an impressive variety of formats, the MdB houses the most important collection of historical photographs of Bogotá, making it a unique window into its evolution.
You'll find old maps that chronicle the city's urban growth and emblematic objects, such as urns, the tram, and the statue of Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, a historical symbol that was toppled by the Misak community during the 2021 social protests
Its history recounts that in 1969, under the administration of Mayor Virgilio Barco Vargas, the Museum of Urban Development was created, located at Calle 10 # 4-21, in a house in the La Candelaria neighborhood. The museum's exhibition is organized into 10 rooms dedicated to the history of Bogotá.
Since 2016, the Bogotá Museum embarked on a new renovation project aimed at consolidating an exhibition for its permanent collection. This new approach defines the museum as a place for reflection on the past, present, and future histories of the city and its inhabitants, promoting the full exercise of citizenship and the right to culture.
Every corner of the museum is filled with stories that connect with the essence of Bogotá. It is a meeting point for citizens where ideas are exchanged, creativity is fostered, issues are debated, and innovative solutions are sought for the challenges faced by the city's inhabitants.
