Bogotá Planetarium

The Bogotá Planetarium, inaugurated in 1969, is one of the main scientific and cultural attractions of the Colombian capital. In 2008, this venue acquired a state-of-the-art image projector to improve the viewing of celestial bodies in its dome, making it, at the time, one of the largest in Latin America.

The iconic spiral-shaped stage was designed and built by the architectural and engineering firm Pizano, Pradilla, Caro y Restrepo. Given the project's significant investment cost and the city's limited budget, an alliance was formed with the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation to barter coffee for the projection system, screen, and equipment from the company Veb Carl Zeiss of Jena, in the German Democratic Republic.

With a diameter of 23 meters and a capacity for 375 people, the Planetarium will feature a high-resolution 4K digital projection system and two 30,000-lumen projectors, making it the most technologically advanced dome in the city.

In 2011, it began an ambitious renovation process to reinforce its structure, expand its capacity, and build the Space Museum, which offers five interactive rooms where visitors can learn about the structure of the universe.

Another highlight is the Astroteca, a library specializing in astronomy and space sciences. Young children will enjoy the Children's Room, designed with content specifically for them.

Throughout its history, the Planetarium has been committed to fostering public engagement with Earth and space sciences in Bogotá and Colombia, while also strengthening its connection to the arts and other scientific disciplines.
