La Candelaria Gastronomic Area
La Candelaria is Bogotá's most historic gastronomic district and also one of its most diverse. Its mainstay is traditional Bogotá and Colombian cuisine: ajiaco, changua, tamales, hot chocolate with cheese, fritanga, among others, stand out as the main offerings in restaurants with decades of tradition. The most iconic landmark is La Puerta Falsa, across from the Cathedral, with over 200 years of history and seven generations of the same family preserving the recipe.
Alongside this tradition, a more contemporary and youthful scene has grown, driven by the area's university community: specialty cafes, restaurants serving signature Colombian cuisine, bars with chicha and ancestral fermented beverages with a modern twist, and trendy establishments that reinterpret regional recipes. Two eras of Bogotá's gastronomy coexist on the same cobblestone streets.
Walking through this area is to discover a cultural mosaic: museums, galleries, theaters, and cultural centers that complete the experience. The Chorro de Quevedo, the Teatro Colón, the Casa de Poesía Silva, and the Plaza de Bolívar are just some of the iconic landmarks that can be visited on a tour full of history and flavor.
