Since its opening in April 1981 on the second floor of the Bogotá Planetarium, Santa Fe Gallery became the district administration's space dedicated to showcasing the work of young visual artists in the city. This commitment was strengthened with the first Young Art Salon in 1991, the first organized public call for submissions, which brought together 77 artists under 40 years of age from across the country.
Following this, with the creation of the Luis Caballero Prize in 1996, the Gallery established a policy to promote the creation and circulation of work by both emerging and established artists, making it a fundamental space for the circulation of visual arts in Bogotá. The gallery, in particular, houses projects that were outside the commercial art circuits and that focused on the development and social appropriation of contemporary artistic practices.
In 2019, the new Galería Santa Fe opened its doors to the public, managed by the District Institute of the Arts (Idartes). Since then, it has continued to contribute to the transformation of the capital's historic and tourist center through art and culture, making it a tourist attraction that promotes Colombian identity and talent.
Its current location in the La Concordia area makes it an accessible and dynamic landmark, fostering connections between tourists and the local art scene.
