As the venue for the Cultural Heritage Department of the National University of Colombia, with a capacity of 1,619 spectators, it is the institution's main auditorium and one of the best acoustic venues in Latin America.
Designed by architect Eugenia Mantilla de Cardoso, it earned her the National Architecture Prize in 1974. Declared a National Monument in 1996, it is the home of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, which has performed there for over 50 years. This venue, along with the orchestra, has received two Latin Grammy Awards: in 2008 for 'Best Instrumental Album: 40 Years' and in 2018, in recognition of sound engineering for Rafa Sardina on the CD '50 Years Playing for You'..
Through large-scale concerts featuring renowned artists such as Plácido Domingo, Kraken, and Aterciopelados, among others, it has attracted new audiences. In November 2023, the auditorium was reopened after significant comprehensive restoration and modernization work, with the support of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra and the Secretariat of Culture, Recreation and Sport of the Mayor's Office of Bogotá.
