In operation since August 2005, the Simón Bolívar Aquatic Complex, a giant in western Bogotá, is a sports center for swimming. Located next to Parque de los Novios (Lovers' Park), it blends seamlessly into its surroundings and offers stunning views through large windows overlooking a lake and the eastern hills of the city. The complex features three swimming venues that can be enjoyed from its stands, which have a capacity of 1,500 people.
The earthquake-resistant structure, covering an area of approximately 10 hectares, aims to strengthen high-performance swimming through various programs, including a Diving School, a Swimming School, and Open Swim. Priority is given to institutional programs, as well as community participation through diverse initiatives such as recreational vacations.
The facility features a 5-meter-deep diving pool, a 25 x 50-meter Olympic-size pool, a semi-Olympic training pool, and a recreational pool for children. It also includes a fully equipped anti-doping room and medical center for attending to athletes and users during events and emergencies. Additional amenities include saunas, a Turkish bath, a press room, and a judges' room, complemented by a gym, cafeteria, and three retail spaces selling sporting goods.
The complex has hosted numerous local, national, and international high-performance events and competitions, and has been used by international figures such as the legendary American swimmer Mark Spitz and the Colombian diver Orlando Duque, who participated in its official opening.
