Bogotá From Above

Bogotá looks different from Monserrate. From the top of the Eastern Hills, the city unfolds before you in all its dimensions: its neighborhoods, its buildings, its parks, and the mountains that surround it.

At more than 3,000 meters above sea level, Monserrate is one of Bogotá's most iconic landmarks and a place where nature, history, tradition, and spirituality converge. You can ascend by cable car or funicular, or take the pedestrian path and enjoy how the landscape changes little by little as you leave the pace of the city behind.

Upon arrival, you will find the Sanctuary of the Fallen Lord of Monserrate, a pilgrimage site that has been part of Bogotá's history for centuries. You can also walk, contemplate the landscape, enjoy the gastronomy, and discover the mountain paths.

And the view is ever-changing. A clear morning, the clouds embracing the hills, the sunset over the city, or Bogotá lighting up as night falls makes each visit a different perspective.

Monserrate is one of those places that remain in memory because from there you not only see Bogotá, but you also see the complete, diverse, enormous, and living city.

Climb up, look toward the skyline, and discover one of the postcard views that make Bogotá a destination you'll always want to return to.

📍 How to get there

The entrance to the Monserrate Trail is located at Carrera 2 Este #21-48. If you are driving, head south along Avenida Circunvalar, take the exit toward Calle 21, and continue to Carrera 2 Este, where you’ll find several parking options right by the trailhead.

  • By TransMilenio, take the J Line to Universidades station. From there, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the trail entrance on Carrera 2 Este.
  • By SITP bus, look for routes that stop near the intersection of Avenida Circunvalar and Calle 21. From there, walk to Carrera 2 Este to start your hike up the Monserrate trail.
