The Colegio Mayor de San Bartolomé, founded on September 27, 1604, is considered the oldest educational institution in Colombia and Latin America, having operated continuously since its opening. It was founded by the then Archbishop of Santafé de Bogotá, Bartolomé Lobo Guerrero, and by the first Jesuits who settled in the New Kingdom of Granada.

Located in the city's historic center, diagonally across from the southeastern corner of Plaza de Bolívar, its colonial architecture and historical legacy make it an important cultural landmark. The institution's design was the work of the Italian Jesuit priest and architect Juan Bautista Coluccini.

It is a National Monument of Colombia, a Cultural Heritage Site, and a District Heritage Site of the city of Bogotá. Recognized for its academic excellence, the school has educated generations of Colombian leaders in diverse fields of knowledge.

The institution traces the origins of the professional football team Millonarios back to January 30, 1938, when the team belonging to the school, founded in 1932, and the Municipal team belonging to the Mayor's Office of Bogotá merged, becoming known as Club Deportivo Municipal CM.Municipal CM.
