Minor Basilica of the Holy Christ
📍 Calle 7 # 6-54 Ubaté (Cundinamarca)
Built in the French Neo-Gothic style, its construction began in 1921. Its history recounts that the Catholics of Ubaté, motivated by priests and government officials at the beginning of the 20th century, decided to replace the old parish church with a new building designed by the architect Luis María Ferresa. His plans were later modified by the Dutch architect Antonio Stoute, who made them simpler and more elegant, conceived in a Flamboyant Gothic style with Baroque details.
Subsequently, in recognition of the church's beauty and to exalt this architectural work and enhance the image of the renewed Christ of Ubaté, in 1989, efforts were initiated with the Holy See to have it elevated to the dignity of a Minor Basilica. This occurred in 1992 with its consecration by Pope John Paul II.
The most striking feature of this beautiful temple is its main spire, which measures 65 meters and houses the image of the Holy Crucified Christ, famous for its miracles. The interior features marble floors and colored tiles with blue ribbed vaults and round columns with Doric capital.
