In Bogotá, you'll find a variety of natural settings ideal for hiking, breathing fresh air, and connecting with nature. One of these is the El Burro Wetland, a natural attraction where you can observe the biodiversity of flora and fauna in the Colombian capital.

Located in the Kennedy district, it originated from the now-extinct El Tintal lagoon and covers approximately 18 hectares, with a 0.2-hectare aquatic strip inhabited by diverse species such as birds, spiders, and insects that play a vital role in air and water purification. The area surrounding the wetland consists of residential complexes, paved streets, and is bordered by the El Porvenir promenade on its southwestern side and El Tintal Park, home to the library of the same name.

Declared a District Ecological Park in 2004 and holding RAMSAR environmental certification, this body of water stands out amidst vegetation such as water umbrella, toad grass, and buttonwood.

Over the past few years, the District has implemented environmental management measures that have restored the aquatic area and the habitat of native wildlife. There you can enjoy free nature walks, admire the scenery, and go birdwatching. Keep in mind that 36 bird species have been recorded in the wetland, 27 of which are permanent residents and 9 are migratory.
