FUGA Public Library
📍 Calle 10 # 3-16
The FUGA Public Library, founded in 1970, is located in the historic center of Bogotá, within the Gilberto Alzate Avendaño Foundation in the La Candelaria district.
The library boasts a significant collection specializing in Colombian political history, making it a space not only for researchers but also for new audiences. It has become an area of influence for its surrounding communities, such as the Bronx District, enriching its users and the District Network of Public Libraries – BibloRed – with its cultural and bibliographic offerings. It is the first library in this network located in La Candelaria.
The facility has an area of 200 square meters where users can access the general reading room, the audiovisual room, and a children's room that provides an opportunity to raise awareness among children about the importance of the country's heritage. Additionally, a diverse cultural program is offered on an ongoing basis, contributing to the transformation of the city through art and culture.
This reading space boasts a collection of nearly 4,000 books, assembled from various libraries, donations, 20th-century newspapers, and books related to the lives and works of Colombian intellectuals and their political thought. It also features an auditorium and the Muelle (an open-air cultural space dedicated to creative arts, live performances, concerts, music, theater, and visual arts).
Here you'll find the "Las Canas se toman la palabra" Reading Club, comprised of the Candelaria Council of Elders, Creative Writing Workshops, partnerships with the University Libraries of La Candelaria, and a service for researchers regarding APA style guidelines.
* The library offers bicycle parking for its users.
The nearest TransMilenio stations are Museo del Oro and Las Aguas, on the Eje Ambiental. From there, walk south for seven minutes to Calle 10. Then walk a few blocks east to Carrera 3, where your destination is.
