Gold Museum
The Gold Museum, part of the Cultural Network of the Bank of the Republic, is dedicated to preserving, researching, cataloging, and sharing its invaluable archaeological collections of gold, ceramics, lithics, and other materials, enriching Colombia’s cultural heritage. Founded in 1939, this cultural treasure invites you on a fascinating journey through history. Today, the museum holds an extraordinary collection of more than 34,000 pieces of gold, ceramics, stone, textiles, and other artifacts that showcase the richness of Colombia’s archaeological legacy.
Its outstanding pre-Hispanic goldwork is displayed across four permanent halls that explore the wealth and ingenuity of ancient civilizations. Each gallery unveils the magic of ancestral techniques and the sophistication of Colombian goldsmithing. All exhibition texts are bilingual, in Spanish and English.
On the second floor, the Metalworking Room showcases ancient mining and manufacturing techniques. Also on this floor, the People and Gold in Pre-Hispanic Colombia Room reveals how metals were used within political and religious organizations.
On the third floor, the Cosmology and Symbolism Room explores mythical themes, shamanism, and the symbolism of metals. Nearby, the Offering Room immerses visitors in offering ceremonies.
On the fourth floor, the Exploratory Room invites visitors to interact, reflect, and engage with the diversity and significance of the heritage preserved by the museum.
The museum aims to strengthen Colombians’ cultural identity through enjoyable, educational, and inspiring experiences. In addition to its main headquarters in Bogotá and six regional galleries, the museum organizes traveling exhibitions, publishes research and educational materials, and offers a wide range of cultural activities while maintaining a vibrant digital presence.
