Itzatá, also known as the Córdoba Wetland, is a natural refuge spanning 40,51 hectares and connecting the Santa Bárbara stream with the Córdoba Wetland. Its name, derived from the Muisca language, means "sacred domain of the water princess." This wetland is unique in Bogotá, with an infrastructure designed to maintain an ideal ecological flow. Visitors can observe more than 155 species of birds, as well as various rodents, amphibians, and other animals that inhabit this special ecosystem.
During your tour, you will enjoy a rich diversity of vegetation, including reed, cattail, and elephant grass. Wooden trails and viewpoints make it an ideal location for birdwatching. Here, you can observe various species, including the neotropic cormorant, the great white egret, and the great blue heron. Don't miss the opportunity to observe aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates that feed local birds. Visit the second sector of the wetland, equipped with wooden walkways and viewing platforms, so that you can enjoy the beauty and biodiversity at its finest.
In addition to its beauty, the wetland plays an essential role in regulating the water cycle and purifying water in Bogotá. Itzatá is the perfect destination for disconnecting, enjoying nature, and learning about urban ecosystems without leaving the city.
