Where stories breathe. In Bogotá, reading inhabits parks, hills, and trails
In Bogotá, reading isn’t confined to libraries; it spreads across the city like a whisper, inhabiting parks, hills, and trails. Here, stories aren’t just read, they are breathed.
Natural Settings for Silent Encounters
LThe capital’s parks are the setting for silent encounters between readers and words. Places like Simón Bolívar Park or Enrique Olaya Herrera National Park offer open meadows where one can lie down and read under the changing sky. There, the act of opening a book blends with birdsong and the passing of cyclists, creating an experience where literature engages in a dialogue with everyday life.
Higher up, in the Eastern Hills, ecological trails invite you to read amidst the clouds and paths. Hikers and readers find a different kind of pause in these spaces: the physical ascent becomes an inner journey. At landmarks like Monserrate or the Quebrada La Vieja trail, bringing a book is almost a ritual, a way to connect the written word with the vastness of the landscape.
Libro al viento
Adding to this literary landscape is the emblematic Libro al Viento (Books to the Wind) program, which has democratized access to reading by placing thousands of copies into the hands of citizens. These books travel on buses, through squares, and into parks, even finding readers in unconventional spaces like urban wetlands, such as the Córdoba or La Conejera wetlands, where nature's contemplation accompanies every page. In this way, Bogotá establishes itself as a city where stories are told and lived in every corner.
In this same spirit, the Bogotá International Book Fair 2026 stands as the ideal stage to discover authors exploring the relationship between literature and nature. Voices such as Jota Mario Arbeláez, William Ospina, Piedad Bonnett, and Juan Cárdenas have woven narratives in which landscape, memory, and environmental issues engage with the human experience. Engaging with their works—and the new proposals arriving at the fair—is an invitation to read the natural world through fresh eyes and to continue that conversation throughout the city's many green spaces.
India, Guest of Honor at FILBo 2026
For its 38th edition, the Bogotá International Book Fair welcomes India as the Guest of Honor. This partnership highlights a nation with thousands of stories to tell, as the fair aims to surpass the 575,000 attendees registered in 2025.
Under the slogan 'Come, Read, and Explore India,' from April 21 to May 4 at Corferias, Bogotá pays tribute to this Asian nation, home to one of the largest and most diverse publishing industries in the world. India ranks third globally in English-language publications and produces books in more than 20 major languages.
In India, literature intertwines with nature in a profound harmony: among sacred rivers, mountains, and jungles, stories are born and breathe to the rhythm of the landscape. Reading under the shade of a tree or by the flowing Ganges is an experience where words feel alive, connecting tradition, spirituality, and the natural environment on every page.
