Hippies Park
📍 Calle 60 # 7 - 49
Hippie Park, located in the Chapinero neighborhood of Bogotá, is marked by the contrast between its location in a traditional Bogotá neighborhood and the emergence of alternative cultural movements. It is said that its name arose informally from the groups of young counterculture activists who began to gather in the park in the late 1960s.
At that time, young people influenced by the global hippie movement, who were seeking a space of freedom where they could express themselves through music, art, and philosophy, found it in Antonio José de Sucre Park. This name, the park's original name, was given in 1945 in homage to the Marshal of Ayacucho, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth.
Over the years, the park became a meeting point for all those who wanted to escape the social rules and conventions of the time. Among its trees, you could see people with long hair, colorful clothes, and guitars, discussing all sorts of topics, from politics to spirituality, through rhymes and songs.
Today, the park is a very popular spot; it features a plaza, a public fountain, and an urban garden. There you can find vendors selling handicrafts, clothing, and vintage items. It's also home to one of the city's PPPs (Paraderos Paralibros Paraparques), a welcoming reading space that integrates culture into people's daily lives. On weekends, the park fills with people enjoying concerts, theater performances, and art exhibitions, making it a space dedicated to music, art, and free expression.
You'll find a lively and diverse atmosphere there. Cafes, record stores, and bars add a modern and youthful vibe. It's the perfect place to enjoy with friends, sit on the grass reading a book, or simply observe everyday life in Bogotá from a different perspective.
