Casa de Nariño
📍 Carrera 8a No. 7-26.
The Casa de Nariño is the official residence of the President of Colombia and the seat of government. It was inaugurated on July 20, 1908, by General Rafael Reyes, and the building was constructed on the grounds of Antonio Nariño's birthplace; therefore, it bears the name of the hero of the Independence movement, who was recognized as the translator of the Declaration of the Rights of Man.
The design was the work of renowned architects Julián Lombana and Gastón Lelarge. It is worth noting that the first astronomical observatory built in the Americas is located in the gardens of the Casa de Nariño. This observatory was designed and erected by the architect Domingo de Petrés in 1803, and its first director was none other than José Celestino Mutis.
The government purchased the property in 1885, and it was renovated in 1908 and 1978. It is a symbol of Colombian history and politics. Inside, the house contains important works of art and historical furnishings. Its majestic halls and gardens have been the setting for some of the nation's most crucial events.
Furthermore, the Casa de Nariño opens its doors to the public for guided tours, offering you the opportunity to experience firsthand the heart of Colombian power.
It's located in the heart of Bogotá's historic center. You can get there by various means of transport, taking Carrera 7 and getting off at Calle 7. You can also take the TransMilenio bus rapid transit system and get off at the Museo de Oro station, then walk several blocks south, passing through Plaza de Bolívar.
